About

Our Challenge:

Nearly half of the world’s fathers, mothers, sons and daughters live on less than two dollars a day.  Many of us (the materially prosperous) feel compelled to act and do act by engaging impoverished communities around the globe.  When we do, we inject ourselves into a community’s on-going process of economic development – which is a long-term, locally driven, context-specific process.  Yet, we are culturally and geographically distant and, for the most part, engaged for a relatively short-duration.  Given these constraints, our Challenge, the Two Dollar Challenge, is to find a way to partner with the poor in making a responsible, sustainable, and effective difference.

Our Mission and Vision:

We envision a world in which the allocation of every bit of passion and effort and dollar of aid dedicated to moving families out of poverty is guided by what works.

We are working to empower young people with the opportunity, skills and resources to make an effective, sustainable and responsible difference in global poverty today and become the next generation of development practitioners.

Our Method:

Using a combination of facts, theory, critical thinking, and experiential learning, we work to transform engaged young people into effective agents of social change.  In particular, our educational programs strive to provide young people with the tools to effectively address poverty – empathy, respect, humility, honesty, and careful listening skills.
